A battle of convenience vs. peace is unfolding on the Mornington Peninsula, where locals are facing a noisy dilemma.
Fed-up residents, already enduring months of roadworks, are now complaining about construction crews turning the worksite into an 'all-night party'.
The situation has sparked controversy and divided opinions. While the roadworks aim to improve infrastructure, the late-night noise has become a major inconvenience for nearby residents.
'Partying until 3am', one local exclaimed, describing the music, screaming, and yelling from the construction site. Another resident, Sammy Lakkis, echoed these sentiments, calling the workers' behavior 'inconsiderate' to those trying to sleep.
The reconstruction and resurfacing project began in July 2025 and has been ongoing in stages, with a pause over the Christmas period to ease tourist congestion. However, this decision has incensed locals, who feel the works should continue without disruption.
Weather delays have further extended the project, with the final asphalt layer being postponed due to cold and wet conditions in November 2025.
A frustrated resident pointed out the contrast with similar works on EastLink, which were completed swiftly, suggesting a potential bias towards toll roads.
'The whole of EastLink was resurfaced in three weeks... cause it's a toll road and needs to make money. Peninsula Link isn't, stop taking the p---.'
This statement raises questions about the priorities and fairness of road maintenance strategies.
What do you think? Should roadworks continue uninterrupted, even if it means disturbing residents' peace? Or is there a balance to be found between infrastructure development and community well-being?
